Top 7. 34 Reviews and Complaints about Chevrolet Silverado. When I first got my truck 2. Double Cab 4. WD, I had pulled off to the shoulder of the road to prepare to make a U turn. When traffic cleared I proceeded to do so and the front end started hopping like it was in 4. WD. My husband was with me. He asked if I had in 4. WD. I said no, so after I turn I pull off the shoulder on the other side of the road pull up, stopped and put in reverse and the rear end made a big clunk noise. Again wondering what the heck I let it go, then every time I would back out of my driveway it would hop. So then I notice that the front right tire and left rear tire have tread gouged in the center of them. So I call Kipo Chevy in Ransomville, NY and they bring me in and tell me that the tire were damaged from the hauler when it was delivered to the dealership, and that the reason my truck was hopping was because I had mud in the differentialMy husband about lost his mind So they replace the two tires, I ask that they put the new ones on the back of the truck, so they did. One day I had to go somewhere and missed my turn so I had to make a U turn. This time my right rear tire was in some soft like dirt stone, and all other tires were on dry pavement. It literally was not even an inch of crap I was in I took pictures, it would not walk out of it, so I put it in 4. WD Auto to walk it out of it, I stop turn it back to 2. WD and then pull ahead while I was waiting for traffic to clear to make my turn. So traffic cleared, I make my turn and halfway through my turn the left rear tire locks up and Im dragging the rear end of the truck in my turn. I had marks all on the rear left tire like it was riding on the face of the tire, almost as if the tire was bent over. November 15th, 2007 at 133 pm Steven Great piece. Can you talk about the expected reliability of 5 7 year old vehicles And how maintenance costs. So I finally had enough of this crap, call Kipo Chevy in Ransomville, NY, and they say no codes could be found and they couldnt duplicate the problem. THEY NEVER DROVE THE TRUCK Had the same miles it came in with on it when I picked it up Okay so with all this smoke being blown up my butt, I call Corporate GM to talk to someone. I get a girl named Kayla, told her the whole spiel and she calls Kipo and they want nothing to do with this truck, so I go to David Chevy in Niagara Falls, told them everything that happened. They had it for a week and tell me no codes can be found, they cant find anything wrong and the left rear tire was normal, they never drove it Mind you no codes or warning lights came on for any of the hopping or wheel locking up at all, this happens intermittently. So I pick it up and on my way home I get a call from GM Kayla and as I was driving I missed my turn and sure enough the damn thing starts hopping in my U turn. So she says take it back to the dealership, took it back the next day, told them again about everything and their tech said it sounds like the 4. WD is kicking in on its own. So they run with that, the tech drove it home, they call me a day later to tell me no codes were found and the tech could not duplicate the problem. So it has been to the GM dealership 5 times for this issue and still no resolution. Now I noticed that my cruise control will go down 1 MPH going uphill and gain 2 MPH going downhill. I always thought that it was suppose to keep a constant speed So I taped this problem so I have proof its doing it. You know in case no codes pop up for the techs I am very disappointed with this truck Thank God its a lease and it will be gone in 2 years. I was told by Kayla that this is a safety concern. I said, Yes I know, I have two young boys who ride in this truck and they were scared when it locked up, especially doing it on a road that is two way traffic and 5. MPH. I think this truck has frame damage from when it was taken off the hauler, how else would opposite front tire and opposite rear tire get the same damage Oh yeah forgot that David Chevy said the alignment was off in the front quite a bit so they had to adjust it2007 Chevrolet Silverado Southern Comfort EditionGet the best new 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 deal in your area with the latest pricing, incentives, financing options, and lease info updated by our Pricing Experts. GM was twice as big as the second biggest company in the world, Standard Oil of New Jersey forefather of todays Exxon. Mobil, and had a vast conglomeration of businesses ranging from home appliances to providing insurance and building Buicks, Cadillacs, Chevrolets, GMCs, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs and locomotives. It was so big that it made more than half the cars sold in the United States and the U. S. Department of Justices antitrust division was threatening to break it up. In the diversified 2. GM back then. But it didnt make a sports car. The idea of a car coming from stodgy GM that could compete with Jaguar, MG or Triumph was almost absurd. Still, there was room inside GM for dreams even if there wasnt any room for whimsy. Harley J. Earl, GMs chief designer formally the head of the Art and Color Section and the man who invented the concept car with the 1. Buick Y Job, was in charge of the corporations ambitious musings. In the fall of 1. Earl began ruminating about an open sports car that would sell for around the price of a mainstream American sedan about 2,0. His ideas were rather nebulous, but he handed those notions over to Robert F. Mc. Lean, the concept came into focus and a car based upon that emerged. Determined to keep costs down, Mc. Lean used off the shelf Chevy mechanical components. The chassis and suspension were for all intents and purposes the 1. Chevy sedans, with the drivetrain and passenger compartment shoved rearward to achieve a 5. The engine was essentially the same dumpy inline 6 that powered all Chevys but with a higher compression ratio, triple Carter side draft carbs and a more aggressive cam that hauled its output up to 1. Fearful that no Chevy manual three speed transmission could handle such extreme power there were no four speeds in GMs inventory, a two speed Powerglide automatic was bolted behind the hoary six. And to keep tooling costs in line, the body was made out of fiberglass instead of steel. While the car was conceived with rigorous attention to the bottom line and production feasibility in mind, it was still only intended to be part of GMs Motorama exhibit at the 1. New York Auto Show. That is until Ed Cole, Chevys recently appointed chief engineer, saw it. Cole, then immersed in development of the world changing 1. V8, is said to have literally jumped up and down with enthusiasm for the Motorama car. So before it even got to New York, and after some corporate machinations, the engineering to put it into production began. But first Cole needed to name it. So he called Myron Scott, founder of the All American Soap Box Derby and an assistant advertising manager for Chevrolet, into a special meeting of executives researching the name. Scott suggested Corvette, Cole loved it and the rest is history. The public at the New York show loved the 1. Motorama Corvette almost as much as Cole did. Thousands of potential buyers wanted to know when they could buy one. Just six months later, they could. The 1. 95. 3 Corvette, virtually identical to the Motorama prototype, entered production on June 3. Flint, Michigan. GM has been making them ever since. C1 Solid Axle Corvettes 1. The 1. 95. 3 Corvette was undeniably gorgeous and, with its fiberglass body, somewhat innovative, but as a sports car it was pathetic. The chassis handled better with the Vettes improved weight distribution, but it was still pretty much a 5. Chevy sedan suspension down there. That meant the front end was suspended by a primitive independent system and the rear held up with leaf springs. A quicker steering gear gave some reflexes to the car, but quicker isnt the same as quick. And of course, the 1. Powerglide transmission were far less than athletic. It wasnt cheap either. At 3,4. 98 the 5. Corvette sticker ran almost 7. Earl had initially hoped, 1,2. Chevrolet, the eight passenger Deluxe 2. Special 1. 50 two door sedans, then the divisions cheapest car. For comparisons sake, the least expensive 2. Corvette, at 5. 1,9. Spark hatchbacks. Motor Trend tested one of the first Chevrolet Corvettes and found it traipsing from zero to 6. But the publication was not completely unimpressed with the car. Probably one of the biggest surprises I got with the car was when I took it through some sharp corners at fairly good speeds, its writer reported. Id heard that Chevrolet had designed the suspension so that it would stay flat and stick in corners, but I took it with several grains of salt. It sticks better than some foreign sports cars Ive driven. The late start and makeshift nature of the Corvettes Flint, Michigan, assembly line meant that only 3. Polo White examples were built of the 5. Not surprisingly, the 5. St. Louis barely changed from the 5. Pennant Blue, Sportsman Red and black in addition to Polo White. A total of 3,6. 40 were built this model year, and many wound up casting their shadows across Chevy dealers lots for months even years waiting for buyers. As good looking as the Corvette was, unless it had performance to match its appearance, buyers werent that interested in it. The year 1. 95. 5 brought the single most important development in the history of the Corvette Chevrolets brilliant small block V8. Originally displacing 2. Software Unlock Icloud. Corvette the most notable tweak was the oversize V in the lettering along the front fenders. Still saddled with the Powerglide transmission, performance was still less than scintillating Road Track had a 5. With many 5. 4 Corvettes still clogging dealer lots, GM restricted production of the 5. V8. It was the 1. Corvette that established the two seater as a legitimate performance machine and as an American icon. While the chassis was very much a carryover from previous Corvettes, the 5. Inside, the cockpit was styled like, well, a cockpit, with the bucket seats surrounded by a body colored frame that divided the passenger space. A removable hardtop was offered as an option for the first time. To many, the 5. 6 and barely changed 5. Corvettes of all time. As lovely as the 5. Corvette was and still is what really ignited the legend that year was that GM began racing it. The only engine offered in the 5. Corvette was the 2. V8, now rated at 2. That was a solid enough start for Zora Arkus Duntov, now the Corvettes chief engineer, to begin going fast. At Floridas Daytona Speedweeks in February 1. Arkus Duntov appeared with new Vettes for John Fitch and Betty Skelton. Reworked cylinder heads, a compression ratio increase to 1. V8s making 2. 55 hp. Fitchs 5. 6 went 1. Skelton sped past at 1. During that same competition, the best a Ford Thunderbird could do was just 1. After the Speedweeks experience came even more Corvettes for that years 1. Hours of Sebring and then the more exuberantly styled SR 2 racer. And with the racing came a change in Corvette advertising that now heralded the cars performance and competition credentials. In a real way, the 1. Corvettes were only foreshadows of the real Corvette that arrived in 5. Visually, the 1. 95. T 1. 0 was available for the first time. The standard Corvette engine grew to 2. Best of all, for the first time, Chevrolet offered performance upgraded engines as options. In addition to the base configuration, the 2. Rochester mechanical fuel injection.
